We pick you up from your accommodation in Fez early in the morning to start the exciting journey from Fez to Marrakech via the Sahara Desert, heading to Merzouga through Midelt and Errachidia. Our first stop is in Ifrane, known as the “Moroccan Switzerland” for its alpine-style architecture and clean streets. Next, continue to Midelt and the stunning Ziz Valley.
Along the way, enjoy scenic views of the Middle Atlas Mountains and pass through the famous cedar forest, home to the wild Barbary macaque monkeys. As you approach Errachidia, the landscape gradually shifts toward desert scenery. After lunch, continue through panoramic views of the Ziz Valley and cross traditional Berber villages before reaching Erfoud. Arrive in Merzouga where you’ll spend the night in a comfortable hotel.
Around 9:00 AM, embark on a thrilling 4WD off-road tour exploring the dunes and oasis around Merzouga. Visit Khamlia, the Gnawa village known for its spiritual music performed by descendants of former slaves from sub-Saharan Africa. Meet local nomads and learn about their traditional lifestyle.
Visit the nearby Merzouga lake, a paradise for migratory birds. Then, head to Rissani (ancient Sijilmassa), once a key trading post on the salt caravan routes from Timbuktu. Wander the lively souk, famous for spices and local crafts. After lunch, return to your hotel in Merzouga to prepare for your camel trek.
At sunset, ride a camel into the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Experience the spectacular colors of the desert as the sun sets. Arrive at the Berber desert camp where you’ll enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner and evening entertainment with local nomads playing Tam Tam drums. Spend a magical night under the stars in the desert.
Wake early to catch the unforgettable sunrise over the sand dunes. After breakfast, depart from the desert and head towards Tinghir and the dramatic Todra Gorge. This natural canyon is famous for its towering rock walls and scenic hiking trails through palm groves and riverside paths.
Continue to the stunning Dades Valley, where you can admire the unique “Monkey Fingers” rock formations. Overnight at a hotel in the Dades Gorge area.
After breakfast, journey to Ouarzazate, the “Gateway to the Sahara” and home to Morocco’s famous film studios. Explore the impressive Taourirt Kasbah before visiting the UNESCO-listed Aït Ben Haddou Kasbah, a spectacular ancient fortress featured in many famous movies.
Continue your drive over the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, enjoying breathtaking views. Arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon, where your unforgettable desert tour ends.
