3 Days Desert Tour from Fez to Marrakech via the Sahara

Experience Morocco’s diverse landscapes on a private 3-day journey from Fez to Marrakech through the stunning Sahara Desert. Cross the Middle Atlas Mountains, explore ancient kasbahs, ride camels on Erg Chebbi dunes, and witness breathtaking sunsets and sunrises before arriving in Marrakech.

Day 1: Fez – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Erfoud – Merzouga

Your driver will pick you up from your hotel or riad in Fez early in the morning. The journey begins through the Middle Atlas Mountains with a stop in Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine charm. Next, visit the Cedar Forest in Azrou, famous for wild Barbary macaque monkeys roaming freely.

After a break, continue to Midelt, a town surrounded by apple orchards. Then cross the spectacular Ziz Valley with its lush palm groves and fortified villages. The route continues to Erfoud and finally reaches Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert, where you will spend the night in a comfortable hotel or guesthouse near the dunes.

Day 2: Merzouga – Camel Trekking – Desert Camp Overnight

After breakfast, explore the desert region by visiting Dayet Srji, a seasonal lake attracting migratory birds. Then, visit the village of Khamlia, home to people of sub-Saharan descent famous for their lively Gnawa music.

Next, take a camel trek into the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes to watch an unforgettable sunset over the golden sands. You will arrive at your desert camp where you’ll enjoy a traditional Berber dinner and spend the night in a cozy tent under the stars. Experience live Berber music around the campfire as you soak in the tranquility of the desert night.

Day 3: Sahara Sunrise – Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Marrakech

Wake up early to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, your camel will bring you back to Merzouga. Then, the journey continues westward through the stunning landscapes of the Todra Gorge and the Dades Valley, known for their dramatic rock formations and Berber villages.

Pass through the famous film city of Ouarzazate before arriving in Marrakech by evening, where your tour ends with a drop-off at your accommodation.
